' The second series of social evenings held by^the ladies of St. Cuthbert's >_nurch Guild, Manaia, was held in the .Oddfellows' Hall last Friday night, and m spite of the inclemency of the weather there was a good attendance. ■ Progressive euchre was Splayed until 10 o'clock, and afterwards a dance was held till midnight. A splendid supper . was provided. During the eveniho'songs were given by Messrs J. A. G* Cosgrove and Ellicott, which were much , appreciated. Excellent music for the i dan_s was supplieH by Mrs. Gilbert and Messrs Abbott and West. Mr. L. I Walters filled the position of M.C ' nicely. Mrs. Collier won the ladies' prize for the euchre and Mr. Ellicott j the gents and ■ Master Hammonds the I booby prize. Special credit is due to Mesdames F. H. Hobday, B. Howell and D. Mitchell for the splendid manner in which they carried out the evening s programme. The /iibove ladies were m sole charge of the function. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed j themselves. The next series will be ; held on^Thursday night in the Odd- ' tellows Hall, when no doubt there will *be a good attendance. , i
