An interesting little function toolplace at St. Mary's School last Sunday afternoon, when a presentation was made to Mrs. S. B. Howlett as a slight recognition of her good work for several years in St. Mary's Sunday School. Rev. R. Franklin (vicar) and Mr. W. Gilbert (superintendent of the school) both bore testimony to the efficient selfdenying work of Mrs. Howlett. Mr. Franklin said that she was one of the best teachers the school had had, and was much beloved by the "little ones whom she had taught so zealously every Sunday afternoon. Mr. Gilbert endorsed these remarks, and in thanking Mrs. Howlett for her assistance asked her, on behalf of the children, to accept a small token oT their esteem. This took the form of a handsomely bound copy of the works of Shakespeare. Mrs. Howlett briefly replied, thanking all for their kindness and assuring them that the work had alwayi. been a labour of love. She added that she was sorry to have to give up Sunday school work. Mrs. Howlett, during all the time she has been in Hawera, has been an enthusiastic Sunday school teacher, making the care of the children her special work. ;
