At the Stadium, Spargo defeated Stanley Mcßride, an American, on points. Though the Australian outboxed his opponent at all points, the American, liberally interpreting some rules, put lots of vim into his work, and kept Spargo busy. In the first round Mcßride punched him half through the ropes, and in the sixth round floored the winner with a heavy right to the ribs.
