FIRE IN GAOL

dF GABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT Received May 1, 8.55 a.m. DELHI, April 29. A fire started in the Calcutta gaol during a riot, and destroyed the workshops. The estimated damage amounts to three lakhs of rupees. The situation is fairly quiet, but the convicts are truculent. The gaol authorities have resumed control. At Eilantoon soldiers were retained in case of further trouble. (Forty-six convicts were sent to hospital with gunshot wounds. Nineteen ■escaped during the turmoil. Two were I xearrested.
