RIFLE SHOOTING.
HAWERA CLUB AT HASTINGS
The Hawera Rifle Club have again rought credit to themselves by wining the Collins Shield at the Hawke's Jay Rifle Association meeting, held at lastings on Easter Monday. The con[itions of the match were as follows: I'ice-men team, seven shots and a» ptional sighter at each of 300 yds, 500 ds, and 600 yds. The weather condiions were extremely difficult on account if both wind and light, variations of everal degrees of wind and elevation it times being necessary. This was )articnlarly noticeable at 600 yds. The shield was held by the Okawa 1 team, which is the local Hastings ;lub. The Hawera team responsible for capturing the shield were Rfmn. G. P. Harrison, C. Palmer, D. Scannell, J. j. Ritchie, and H. C. Loveday. All scored consistently, the most meritorious score being that of Rfmn. Loveday (96), Eight teams competed, including 3Eawa No. 1 and Wellington Suburbs, ivho this year were second and third respectively. Okawa finished 13 points behind Hawera. The shield is described as the most handsome in the Southern Hemisphere, and is certainly a work of art. Whilst exhibited at Hastings it was the admiration of all visiting riflemen, besides the general public. It is expected the shield will arrive in Hawera early next week, and it will then be exhibited in Messrs Blair and Sellar's window.
