CROQUET.

HAWERA CLUB. A gathering of members of the Ha- ' wera Croquet Club was held on Thurs- ' day at the Club's pavilion, when the ' awards and trophies won during the past season were presented to the winners ' by the president of the Hawera Tennis and Croquet Club (Mr. Leece). i Mr. Leece, in a Happy Tittle speech, ' congratulated the members on the successful season, and assured them that [ the club, while making the new lawns, j had the interests of the croquet as well as the tennis members at heart. He hoped that the new lawns, as well as the '' present ones, would be in good condition for play during next season.. He then presented the trophies. The following list gives the winners of the various sections: I Champions.—A, Mrs. - Bennett: B ' Mrs. Blake. » Runners-up.—A, Mrs. Morris: B, Mrs. Callaghan. ' Handicap Singles.—Mrs. Morris ! Handicap Doubles.—A. Miss Power and Mrs. Dowling; B, Mrs. T. Campbell and Mrs. Washer. Handicap Singles played before Christmas.—Mrs. Brodie. Saturday Progressive Competition.— A Mrs. Wyhe; B, Mrs. Callaghan. Break Competition.—Mrs. Brodie W^ gr ßSi^ (M£ S- KemP's)--A, Mrs. Wyhe; B, Mrs. Burgess. ccc then made Presentations on behalf of the members to Mrs Cowern and Mrs. C. Walker, who are leaving the district, and to Mrs. Dowlmg, who had proved a most efficient secretary to the club. Beautiful bouquets made by Mrs. Washer, were given to these ladies Mrs. Morris thanked Mr. Leece for' being present aM expressed appreciation of his fcOi-m-Ls :-s president.
