DEBATING CONTEST.

AUCKLAND, April 14. The debating contest fox the .foynt Challenge Scroll in connection with the inter-varsity tournament was held last night. There was a large attendance. The debate was won by Canterbury College, which met Aucckland in debate. Otago were considered better than Victoria College, whom they met in the contest. In announcing the decision placing Canterbury first, the judges said it was not very easy to come to a decision. The .first decision was that Otago beat Victoria and that Canterbury beat Auckland, and finally it was agreed that Canterbury defeated Otago, though only by a very little. Proceedings during the debate were at times very rowdy.
