HAWERA TECH. v. NEW PLYMOUTH TECH.

The annual cricket match- botweem New Plymouth Technical College and Hawera Technical High School was played on the Park cricket grounds yesterday, an easy,win being scored by the Hawera boys. New Plymouth won the toss and sent Hawera in. Hammond' and Griffin opened the batting for Hawera. The first three wickets fell easily, but a stand was made by Whyte and Whiteford. At the luncheon "adjournment five wickets had fallen for 41. After luncheon the score was further increased to 60. The New Plymouth boys are to be complimented on their fielding. For New Plymouth Loveridge and Diekson opened to the bowling of Campi - and Hammond. The innings produced N 36; the highest score being Singh 10. The second innings for Hawera was opened by Hammond and Griifin. 48 having been~reached for no wickets at the call of time. j The visiting team was entertained at i lunch and tea at the Park tea kiosk, ! which Mr. Dowdle very kindly placed at ! the disposal of the senior girls during ! the day. For this courtesy, and for his assistance, the school is grateful to Mr. Dowdle. Mr. Gatlaml, for the visitors, thanked the local team for the game, and for the entertainment, and expressed a hope that the Hawera hoys would be able to visit New Plymouth later this or early next season. Cheers for the visitors : were given by the local boys, and were heartily returned. Later a number of i the team assembled in the kiosk, when the headmaster proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Grindley for the fine work as coach during the latter part of the season. MrTtJray stated that he was more than pleased at the wonderful improvement which Mr. Grindley had managed to effect in the team in a short time. The team enthusiastically endorsed the remarks. On rising to speak the veteran was accorded a great round of applause. He remarked that he had done his best to improve the team's play, and that he was only too glad to be of use to them at any time. Continuing, he eulogised cricket and said i that it was a delight to him to see the i boys taking such a keen interest in the game.
