Received March 23, 8.45 a.m. WASHINGTON. March 22

The State Department has announced that the United States Government' will have neither an official nor unofficial representative at the Near East Conference in Paris; The United States, however, will be kept closely informed by the Ambassador at Paris regarding all the steps taken at the conference. The same course wilj be pursued respecting the Genoa Conference. The Ambassador at Rome, reporting on developments says it is understood that President Harding believes that1 American interests will be seriously hampered by the fact that the United States will not be represented on the Reparation Commission, and hopes Congress will authorise such representation.
