HEAVY DEFICIT.

CAPETOWN, Feb. 21
Introducing additional estimates in the Assembly, the Minister of Finance said the deficit for the current year was £2,000,000. Customs had fallen off £1,000,000, and the collapse of the diamond market had involved heavy losses. He believed it would be wrong to tax the people and the only alternative was to reduce expenditure.
