HAWERA CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING.

I The annual meeting of th# Hawera Sports and Pastimes *Jlub was held in tho Borough Council Chambers last ' evening, when Mr. M. F. Parser presided over an attendance or" about 15 members. ANNUAL REPORT. ' Tho commitetee submitted the annual report as follows:—•' . j "No doubt members are aware of the criticism that has been levelled, at tho* action of your executive in promoting only one tourney daring the past year, but when tho facts are made known! it will be scon that such criticism was unwarranted. It will be remombered' that the last tournament held was in October, 1920 ; and it is regretted it was not a financial success, tho deficiency being £49. To have promoted further such tourneys would have resulted in further loss to the club, and your committee decided to endeavour to foster the amateur sport instead of providing largo purses for professional fighters. Arrangements were then made to stage a purely amateur tourney in December,' 1920, but owing to laclc of support it was abandoned until the winter. Twice subsequently endeavours were made to Btage similar tourneys, and in each cate the support anticipated and essential for success was very disappointing. On the last occasion five out of the six bouts it was intended to stage were definitely arranged at the last moment; three of the competitors cancelled their engagements. Thus it will bo seen that the support forthcoming from amateur boxers in the district was moat . disappointing, although tho club liad . in the past liberally treated amateurs as regards prizes and travelling ox- \ penses. In view of these facts your J committee decided to place tho whole matter before you, and the matter rests with the meeting. During the year the committee decided to cell tho old mat and purchase a new and stronger one. This is in good order, not having been used. The assets as shown in the balance sheet have all I>een written " down considerably, and are a very, conservative estimate. In regard 10 the Dixon Banner for competition among the South Taranaki schools it is regretted that there has not been a competition this 3*«ar, but, with the near approach of more suitable weather, it is hoped an endeavour will bo, made to hold those. In conclusion, your executive hopes that the incoming committee will make an early attempt to again test the feelings of boxing enthusiasts in the district, and have a more satisfactory year than the past. The president extends to all committee men his thanks for the amicable manner in which meetings have been held during the past, year. The club is greatly indebted to Mr. F. W. Pettett for his willing assistance in erecting the ring appointments for the last tourney, and to the Press, who have given the club every assistance during the past year." The secretary mentioned that there was a credit balance at the bank of £7 13s Id with cash in hand amounting to 7s. The total value of the club's assets was £68 0s Id, DISSOLUTION TO BE CONSIDERED. Some discussion arose'as to whether or not it would be advisable to dissolve the club. Mr. J. W. Black mentioned that the committee had had a lot of meetings, and had passed a number of resolutions, but nothing had come to a head. Personally, he would regret to see the club fall through, and he felt that someone else should be given a chance to carry it on. :' It,was finally moved by Mr. Bayley and seconded by Mr. Stevens that a special general meeting of the club be called, for November 4, when the advisability of dissolving the club, would be considered. • A motion moved by Messrs Seaver , and Bowen to the effect that officers 1 be elected for the ensuing year was lost on a show of hands. 1 The chairman mentioned that a twothjjds .majority at the special meeting would be necessary if the club were to be dissolved. ; QUEEN CARNIVAL. 1 A letter was received from Mr. Henderson, asking that the club support the sports candidate for the carnival On the motion of Messrs Bayley and I Black, it was. decided to hold tho request over until the special meeting ■ DIXON BANNER. In reply to Mr. Black, the chairman said that, in the event of,.the club becoming defunct the Dixon Banner would be handed back to the donor. THANKS. After a small informal discussion, the meeting , closed with* a vote of thanks to the chair.
