: ♦ • PREPARATIONS FOR TARANAKI DEMONSTRATION. i TO BE HELD AT HAWERA. \ A meeting of the Citizens' Committee was held last evening in the Fire Brigade social room, Mr J. G. Osborne presiding over an attendance of sixteen members. Apologies were read and received from absentees. It was resolved that an account be opened at the Bank of New South Wales for the fund, the chairman and secretary to operate. The meeting fixed Wednesday, February 15, 1922, as the date for the demonstration. In reply to Mr Hooker, the chairman said that it was intended to give cash prizes to a total value of £130. Entertaining the visiting firemen, advertising, general" printing, etc., would involve an expenditure of about £90 making the total amount required £220. Messrs J. G. Osborne, A. Arthur, !F. Boase, and F. Purser were appointed a committee to wait upon business - people for donations to the demonstration fund. ■ The following were appointed the finance- Committee: Messrs L. 0 ! Hooker, B. C. Bennett, W. Hawkins, !J. R. Corrigan, R. T. Bullock, and Follas. . j It was clecidod to set up a commit- , tee, also a ladies' committee, to can- ' vass the general public for funds, these appointments to be made later on The chairman and Mr Hooker are to interview several gentlemen asking for their assistance to collect funds from ' residents just outside the borough boundary. Mr Hooker undertook to draw no the collecting lists. It was I resolved that Messrs Hooker, HawkTns and Superintendent Pettett be a committee to classify the town for the collectors. , | It was decided that the Retailers' Association be asked to' declare the Wednesday on which the demonstra- | tion is held a whole holiday, as - the competitions are to commence at 9 a.m. t The matter of providing refresh- ; merits on the ground was held over till later. The chairman and Mr L. O. Hooker were appointed an advertising committee., and are also to attend to the publishing of programmes. The secretary was instructed to apply to the Borough Council for the loan of sufficient pipes to lay water on to the show grounds from Caniberwell road. Official application is to be made for the use of the show grounds. It was decided that tho Citizens' Committee (including all committees) meet each Thursday evening at 7.30. A vote of thanks' to the chair closed the meeting. ' BUSINESS NOTICES. _ To-morrow (Saturday), at 1.15 p.m., R. P. Morrissey and Co. will offer poultry, prime meat, quantity of house-, hold furniture and sundries. Particulars in advertising column ! . J. W.
