WHAREROA

• (From Our Own Correspondent). .~^% I On Monday evening the annual meet- ■■ -' ing of the Whareroa Hall Committee'-* was held in the Hall, when there was » . full muster present. The balance-sheet i was read, when the net receipts for the j year were shown to be just under £97. , The following were elected a commit- '- tee for the coming year: Messrs R. '• Hicks, W. Nicholas, A. B. Robertson, " Reynolds, Eustace, Murphy and B. Bloor. Mr Hicks was elected chairman, . , Mr Murphy secretary, and Mrs Bento* \ auditor. Owing to pressure of busi-' ness Mr Death did not seek re-election to the committee. His resignation was i received with regret. A lengthy and- , warm discussion took place on the sub- A ject of jazzing, all being unanimous i» firmly suppressing any form of closedancing or jazzing. It was proposed by Mr Hicks, and seconded by Mr Reynolds, that all jazzing be strictly'for- , bidden in the hall in the coming, dances. A hearty vote of thanks was' accorded the M.C., Mr B. Bloor, who has done much towards making past dances so successful. We are sorry to report that Miss Rem, our assistant teacher, is absent ~ on sick leave. Her place is being tern- - porarily filled by Miss Walker, of Ha- r wera. The recent welcome rains are having a very beneficial effect on the pastures, and all crops just put in are getting ' a fine start. v A number of narrow escapes from, accidents with trains at the South road crossing on the railway line are often heard of. Unfortunately, owing to th*^ cutting, trains from the north cannot be. seen or heard until they are almost too close. It is a pity some further warning could not be given before an-. other fatality may occur.
