REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The annual report and balance-sheet was read as follows:

"It gives us much pleasure in Proseating to you the first annual report and balance-sheet of the Parks and Reserves Improvement Committee, and as a committee we feel that it will be

gratifying to you to know that for the initial year ; things have planned out far better than we anticipated wh-u we took office. It is not our intention to weary you with a lengthy report, but very briefly wish to lay before you a short report of our work and to lay before you also the position financially. The inaugural meeting oi the committee was called tor November 25, 1920, being held in the Borough Council Chambers, and was attended by a fair number of people interested in the movement. His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Dixon) presided, and it was decided to form a committee with y the object in view of raising money to be expended for the improvement ot the parks and reserves in and around Hawera. After going carefully into ways and means of raising money for this purpose your committee decided to hold evening concerts in King Edward Park, the first being held on December 8, 1920. This turned out ▼cry successfully indeed, showing a credit balance of £59 17s Id. Other concerts were held on Thursday, January 27. and Wednesday, March 9; these also showed an excellent credit balance. During the year the committee have donated the following sums of money to the Borough Council' £50 towards paying for the installing of the electric light in the Park; £25 towards the cost of moving pavilion ■in sports grounds, and £15 to the Turuturu-Mokai reserve committee for the improvement of the reserves. In connection with the last mentioned the committee promised the sum of £25, and have given £15 towards that amount, and have, promised to donate the balance out of next season's moneys. Little need be said about the balance-sheet in this report, it being quite self explanatory. You will note that after paying all expenses we close the year, after clearing off present liabilities, with the sum of £5 4s 2d. The object of the committee is not hold a balance, but to raise the amounts for specific purposes and pay it into that as.soon as possible. The - committee deeply regretted the untimely death of our treasurer, the late H.E. Outred, who was killed in a motor accident last Good Friday. Mr Outred was a man who took a great deal of interest, and gave much or his time to the work of this committee, and his loss was very keenly felt by us. We wish to place on record his splendid work in this behalf and ex- : tend to his widow our very deepest sympathy. We feel that no more need be said regarding our work; we come before you feeling quite satisfied thaf we have to the best of our ability carried but the object for which this committee was formed, and trust to have your endorsement of our actions." "The balance-sheet showed' receipts amounting to £128 8s od. Expenditure was shown as amounting to £27 Is 3d. Donations had been made to the Bor-,

©ugh CouadJLof £50 towards the in- -- stallation Q_^electric fight in the Park and £25 towards expenses incurred in jr.*.--.™ tbe stand. A credit balance ot £26 7s 2d was shown at-the bank, out • of which £15, being part of a donation towards the development of a sports ground -at^ Juruturu-Mokai, would be 'paid. Afi»r liabilities amounting to £6 3. .had been oaid a oredit balance of £5 4s 2d would remain. *": ELECTION /OF OFFICERS. - -The' following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Chairman, Mr - E. Mr T. Gormley paid a very high trihute to the help which had been given "by the Hawera Star He also mentioned the visit they had paid that afternoon to Turuturu-Mokai. The'concerts in the Park had been a success, but they wanted to hurry along nest year and hold as many as possible. There was no doubt that if they would follow on and'give the people value for their money they would obtain the best results. He congratulated the Mayor on the attitude he had taken up at the field day at the Turuturu-Mokai re- '' serve that afternoon, but he was sorry i» see so few sports represented there. Mr - Stevens said that he was 7ery pleased with the progress they had made, hut instead of saving the Borough Council £100, as they had done last year, he hoped that they would be able to give them £2db this year. _hey "had had a small committee, but sdl had ■worked well. - Mr Gormley was the right man to attend to the coneer-s.
