CORRESPONDENCE
THE ERNEST DRAKE CONCERT
(To the Editor.) Sir, —It: is with sincere regret that I am compelled to write on what is to me a very painful subject. I was forced late in the afternoon of Tuesday to realise ray inability to sing at the.concert later that evening. It was the' second time in my history as a singer that I have had to face such a painful position, once .in .England, and last night in this town;-so it is with extreme gratitude that I thank Mrs. Goodson, Mrs. Bovven, Mr. Ackroyd, and Mr. Thomas, who so kindly came forward to my assistance at short notice.^ I extend my most sincere apologies to those who were disappointed at my non-appearance, but I, like other humans, have to fight the ills which the flesh is heir to and some-
times must be the loser. However, I hope to come back to Hawera. and .will then do my best to, repay those who felt disappointed at my unfortunate bad luck. Finally, and most of all I am,-greatly indebted to Mr. L. Tarrant, who so kindly brought me to his home and did everything possible to enable me to sing.—l am, etc., ERNEST DRAKE.
