MANAIA.

Tho friends of Mr and Mis C. Kirk, of Manaia, assembled at the Manaia Hotel on Monday afternoon to make a presentation to them prior to their departure from Manaia after a residence of seven years. Mr F. McCarthy, on behalf of the friends of/ the guests^ presented Mr Kirk with a case of pipes; and an ornate brooch set with pearls to Mi*b Kirk. In a neat speech ho referred to Mr and Mrs Kirk's good qualities as citizens, always ready to assist with any function for the welfare of tho town. Tho people of Manaia regretted their departure sincerely. Mr A. Franklin, in nresonting a floral bouquet to Mrs Kirk on behalf of friends assembled, spoke in appreciative terms of her sterling qualities as a neighbour and friend, and voiced the wish that her future pathway in life would be through avenues of flowers,, expressed in the form of human sympathy and e-ladness. Messrs J. D. and A. Mitchell added their quota of best wishes for tho future of the guests. Mr C. Kirk thanked most heartily the friends for their nice present. He Raid he would always cherish them, and will keep them as a souvenir to remind >im of his many friends of Manaia. Ho also.thanked them all on bohalf of Mrs Kirk, and Raid his wife appreciated very much tho kindness sho always received from the wonle of Mnnaia, and sho will also cherish the nice present given her. Mr n>«d Mrs Tvii-tV fcealth was duly drunk with musical honours.
