VENTURE AT HOKITIKA

The Rimu Gold Dredging Company's leviathan dredge-south of Hokitika is completed, and a trial was made to-day of the dredging plant worked by electric pow«r from the Kanieri Lake. The whole plant worked exceedingly well, «nd small matters requiring adjustment are rectivng attention. The operation of the machinery ,by electric power was a novelty in gold mining, several new ideas in dredging being installed. Wredgemaster Lewis, of the United States, has operated similar large dredges in America. As an indication of the size of the dredge, the goldsaving tables have a spread of 5000 feet. The company was capitalised ,by New York shareholders. Their representatives are Messrs Cranston . and Ford, who, after thoroughly prospeetttig tfee ground, have great hopes — tor the success of the venture.
