Though many of the scores in the qualifying rounds were not by any ! means good or a fair sample of the j players' form, several were • exceedingly good. The playing in the matches drawn for-this Week will be full of interest. Many dose contests arc loos, ed for. , Mrs McLean is to be congratulated on the fine performance she put up at Wanganui. She met several of the leading players in New Zealand and acquitted herself exceedingly well. Congratulations will be sent to Miss Brewster on her again winning the championship at New Plymouth. The New Plymouth papers report show that the play in the final, when she met Mrs Johns, was good, and the win thoroughly deserved. I Previous championship winners are: 1900, Miss Stephenson; 1906, Miss A. Hoskin; 1907-8, Miss Standish; 1909----11, Miss Stephenson; 1912, Miss Brewster; 1913-14, Miss Stephenson; 1915, Miss Brewster; 1916, Mrs J. Glenn; in 1917 and 1918 the championship was not played; 1919 Miss Bundle; 1920, Miss Brewster.
