ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
(By "Aston Villa.?')
Tlie end of the season is fast approaching; although there are jet two or three games to be played. The match of interest to local "Soccerites" is. of course, the Taranaki-Auekland fixture, to be played at New Plymouth, and members of the Hawera team should keep in training, as several of the team are certain to be called on' to. represent this province against the northern men, '
Regarding the game recently played with New Plymouth, the Hawera XI showed good form-, the home "goalie" played a great game, and is quite good enough to represent Taranaki, but a j different, tale must be told about the, [Stratford game on Thursday last. Certainly the Hswera Club find it difficult to raise a strong eleven for a midWeek match, but the team that did turn put should have won with two or three goals tospare, Hawerji had the best of the play almort throughout the game, and it is hard to cay how some of the forward^/'misied goring when very close to goal. Piooch was very safe at right half, but he should be\ kept in his position at centre half: At the Brown Shield match on Saturday last over 6000: people saw Auckland defeat Wellington, and thus de^ i pnve Wellington of th^ shield for the first time since 1914. The "gate" constituted a record for Wellington as regards "Soccer.". Auckland won the-i game through superior combination to that of their opponents. ~ ;
