DEBATING SOCIETY
At last Thursday's meeting of the Debating Society the ladies read essays; which^were afterwards discussed, and a pleasant and profitable evening was spent. The essays were: "The Charm of Books," Miss McCarty; "Home Life," Mis Sowejrby: "Electricity in the Home," Miss Mitchell; "Cinema Pictures," Miss M. Mitchell. - Next week there will be a debate on "Which has the greater influence on character heredity or environment." Mr. A. Galloway will take the former and Mr. MeEwen i the latter. THE LATE MR. G. V. BATE. Great regret was exnressed on all sides when the news wa£ received that Mr. Bate had passed away. The deceased lived in Normanb v for a numi °Ju years. an<i was much respected and the deepest sympathy is expressed for the widow and son in thei|r sad loss
