THE MINING DISPUTE

No Union assessors were present : again at the second Conciliation * Council sitting relative to the'applica- ■ tion of the Coal Mine Companies for ; a district award for Otago andr Southland. The Commissioner stated' that since the meeting in August he had written to the three Unions con- > cerned, pointing out that the citation was to cover the whole district, the '■■ employers haying-no intention of tryIng to enter into an agreement for •every mine. One Union had replied t that it could not enter into an agreement except, on a Dominion basis. Tliere being no nominations, the Com- • missioner had nominated assessors for. this sitting. These assessors being ab- - sent, the only thing left was to de- •' clare the sitting properly constituted : and refer the matter to the Court v without a recommendation.
