Cold rain showers, accompanied by a strong wind from the north, made the i prospects for w>-morrow's test not fcoo j bright, but by ten o'clock this evening a decided change for the better took place, the clouds dispersing and a stiff breeze comJng from the north-east, with good hope that the ground will have recovered when the game commences to-morrow afternoon. These hopes are confirmed by a gradually rising barometer. The town is full of visitors, all trains arriving to-day being crowded, ■ and should the weather conditions be favourable it is anticipated the "'o-ate" ,will eclipse all previous records, "it is now definitely announced that McLean will be unable to play, and Fo-j-irty (Taranaki) will take his place ■ WESTPORT, August tl. At a meeting of the Westport District High School Committee to-night it was resolved to congratulate Gtorge Aitkin, a native of Westport and a pupil of the school on his selection as captain of the All Black team against the Springboks, and to wish him eucce|s in to-morrow's match. It wos deCi «-J*? have an enlarged photograph of Aitkin placed in the school, vith a record of his educational and sp«>rtin<* attainments. The hope was expressed that he would be selected as a Rhodes scholar as the first representative of the West Coast.
