MOVABLE BUILDINGS

FOR BACKBLOCKS DISTRICTS. ■ smong the many problems which confront the Education Board in dealing with the provision, of school facilities in outlying districts is that of'eofuiing suitable accommodation for the school and for the teacher. The T*ranaki Board seem to have secured something near a solution of the difficulty in movable residences which have i€<fntly '• been constructed. to the design o| the | overseer (Mr. H. O. Moore). The iesidences are 18 feet by 12 feet, and have a comfortable appearance. They are neatly constructed in oregon, ui\d, despite the fact that the structures are built in sections for handy emoval, are qjiite solid, with a workmanlike finish. The cost of each building, delivered to site, is estimated at £200. The two .houses recently constructed as a sample are made so that one man can handle ■any one section if necessary, and they ! are interchangeable. When taken to pieces they can be packed on .drays cr even sledges. The windows and drors are contained in the sections 3 and can be placed on any side to suit the site and orientation. Besides simplicity in erection, quickness of construction is also a strong point of these residences, lhe two buildings, including the joinery, were got out of timber in the rough and completed in four weeks. The fact that the two first residences iiave been completed was reported by the architect to yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Education Board, and he expressed the opinion that 'the work done by the jomer v staff under the fore-/ man (Mr. Millar) *ould prove very r«™ S ry/ fT Continuing, the architect remarked; <<I have given the matter of movable school buildings considerable attention for a long time, and' I feel sure all country schools could be built Preset PlWlf*♦»• third> SS ** than »* Kf 11™ ls, re 9u"-ed is a decent!3fni rt W°rkd\s? a?, d l ard space ' and Bhnply al be gOt 6ut luite d!? rnvS;U M?
