NEWCASTLE COAL
LIFTING OF EMBARGO
EFFECT IN NEW ZEALAND.

The opinion of a leading merchant is the lifting of the embargo on Newcastle coal means that New Zealand will "be relieved of anxiety as far as its coal isupply is concerned. New Zealand, he '-■aid^would be in a position to -^», full supply of high quality coal, and "there were already indications of a drop in- prices. Manufacturers, gas companies, arid municipal bodies carrying 'on trading concerns, such as tramways, should benefit greatly;- and -no longer would they needle to buy ""outside" ,^ argoes at enhanced prices', which they ' ±?r b% Qn Prepared-to pay merely~because ythey feared a shortage. The lifting of -the embargo will probably have another •effect, namely^ the winding up bf the Coal Control Department
