FINANCIAL MISSION
- . . —-. ♦- — ■ r A SATISFACTORY RESULT.
(By Telegraph—Special to. Star.) WELLINGTON, July 16. *.1 am quite satisfied we will get all we want," declared Mr A. W. Rodigere, chairman of the Southland Electric Power Board, who returned to- . day from a financial- mission to England. He was not prepared-to discuss this /aspect further until communicating with the Power Board and ascertaining the conditions in New Zealand. He found trade conditions bad in England, where in any centre one can find thousands of unemployed lined up waiting for the daily doles. : Things are not much better in America and Canada. The only hopeful thing .about it, remarked Mr Rodgers, is that all the countries are equally badly off, owing to lack -6f outlets of their trade.' The question will have to be solved by a united effort, and things will right themselves in time.' Asked if large orders for machinery had been placed by New -Zealand in England were likely to be quickly delivered, Mr Rodgers said there was absolutely no difficulty now that, the coal strike is over. He was not surprised at the success of the New Zealand loan flotation. "I believe the Premier said he expected to __kave to wait until August, so he has •done better than he anticioated"There is no portion of the Empire which etands better than New Zealand in the eyes of the financial world. The reason ; is that we carried "on during the war without going upon the .■ English market for, money, while ad- • ministration affairs * here are looked ■upon as being good."
