CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Richard Evans, aged 78, a well-known Kaiapoi resident, while crossing the railway line to catch - tram for Christchurch, was knocked down, part of the train passing over his legs." He was taken to the Kaiapoi nursing home, where he died at about mid-day. Deceased was chairman of the Waimakarir' Harbour Board and a prominent member of the Farmers' Union and other bodies.
