INCREASED DEMAND

OWING TO LOWER PRICE.

(liV: TELEGRAPH —PUKES ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 16.. Private advices have been received from London to the effect that the demand for butter has increased with the reduction in the 'retail-price.- The estimated increase in consumption is 25 to 50 per cent. \ Government cheese is being sold in the United Kingdom, at Id per lb or more reduction on the retail prices. It is .stated that this fall is the result of the Government's inducement to traders to reduce the heavy holdings, estimated to amount to 8500 tons. Free cheese is expected to be* reduced in price in harmony with the Government's latest reduction.
