SCHOOL PICNIC. The annual school picnic was held on Friday last in Mr Gibbs' paddock. A« ~ the day was fine a very fair number of adults came along and with the childrent spent a pleasant day. N Shortly after an early lunch, races of all descriptions! were until late in the ~ afternoon. Mrs W. Tayler. acted as handicapper in her usual efficient man- y ncr and gave entire satisfaction. Be- . - fore afternoon tea prizes were distributed to each pupil in order of merit. * Special prizes for sewing were given • •by Mesdames H. Hodge, H. SutheP- , land, W. H." Murray, G*. Waray Misses Ward and Murray. The winners", in the respective standards jrerer.Std. ,- VI., Eva Sutherland; Std. V., Maud Henty; Std. IV., Dorothy Ward- fcjto. HI.; Ahce Wytkin.; Std. n., Joan. .Henty; Std. 1., Josephine Wytkm. Proficiency certificates were handed to - the following: Eva and Janet Sutherland, Claude. Bowater, Isabella Neilson and Pearl Hodge, and a competency^ certificate ;'to Gordon Smith.
. During the afternoon Claude Bowater, in a neat speech, on behalf of _fcheStd: VL pupils presented the headmaster with a fountain pen as a token. of appreciation of his teaching.
~ Three cheers were given for-the-teachers and the committee before making the final demand on the eatables and lollies.
