GOLDMINE INDUSTRY
PREMIER'S REPLY TO
DEPUTATION.
(by telegraph—puess association ) DUNEDIN, Feb. 11. A deputation representing the Otago ana Southland gold-mining industry waited on Mr. Massey asking for compensation for losses of profits occasioned by the embargo on the export of gold during the war. Mr. Massey replied that it was impossible to grant the request, as the law did not provide for any reimbursement to those who had made extra profit, and he refused to place any additional burden on the taxpayers for that purpose.
