_ LONDON, Dec. 3. In a speech at a dinner of the Federation of British Industries, Mr Lloyd George, the Prime Minister, referred to the coming serious trade depression, which he declared would be world wide. "I am afraid it is inevitable," he added, "but the question is whether it is possible to do anything to shorten it and to mitigate its evils. The first' remedy is to secure peace in Europe We must work with both hands; we cannot handle the sword with one hand and the trowel with the other " Mr Lloyd George added that, in the mam, the Government's policy was that the less trade was interfered with the^better. He appealed to the nation to back up the Government in its campaign to enforce economy. "There must be thrift, not only in Government departments, but in the home," Jie said. "Family committees on economy are needed as well as Government committees."
