RETURNED SOLDIERS
IMMIGRATION QUESTION
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER
(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION i ' AUCKLAND, Dec 16. A deputation from the 1 Auckland branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association executive, consisting of Messrs Andrews (secretary), Scott and Jacobs, waited on the Minister of Lands (Mr (xuthne) to-day to bring under his notice some of the anomalies of the present system of immigration, and Mr Andrews explained that it was the emphatic opinion of his executive that incorrect lnlormation was being, supplied to intending immigrants by the Overseas Settlement Committee in London though he was sure Sir James Allen and the tiigh Commissioner's Office had explained the true situation as far as land and houses in New Zealand were concerned. * \ The Minister,, in reply, said the matter was not altogether within his sphere, but he would be pleased to bring it under the notice of the Mijaister of Immigration (Hon. W Nosworthy). H© could say from his own personal knowledge that the latter was anxious to help all classes of immigrants, and had arranged to send to Jiaigland an officer of the Department I who had recently been assisting in the disembarkation of our immigrants to New Zealand. It would be his duty to keep intending settlers advised of the true conditions at this end.
