CORRESPONDENCE

-^ AWATUNA YOUTHS' PRANKS. LTo the Editor.) Sir,—l noticed in your paper ;a few days ago'- $? letter from your corresponr dent at Awattma referring to the ' 'dock- , ing" of horses' "tails and other misde.meanoui'S by, certain .youths.1 As'the youths' have been caught and punished, and their Damps made public, I think , it only faa- to them that you should explain some rather misleading statements made . by; your correspondent. What the, youths did I think was merely what onf might call "horse play," and was not anything so cruel as one might 1 think from the ■ letter of your correspondent. I do not wish to defend the boys 3 and I am glad to see that they have been punished, but their act was ! only a boyish prank and not a gross cruelty. They merely cut the, hair from the horses' tails to make them' look 1 ridiculous, but they certainly did hot 1 cut or damage the' stump of the tails lof the horses. "Boys will be boys," MiEditor, and these lads have taken their punishment like men and paid up for the damage done. They are not erne I lads, however, and it is fair that the matter should be explained.—l am. etc., AN OLD BOY
