(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, July 30 The Legislative Council met at 2 30 p.m. The Imprest Supply Bill (No 2) was received from the House and put through all stages and passed. The Statutes Revision Committee reported the Marriage Amendment Bill with mmor amendments, but it was referred back. The Gaming Amendment. Bill was put through its final stages ana passed .The Council rose at 3.30 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. xlxa House met at 2.30 p.m. 'ihe Westport Harbor board Abolition jjill was introduced by bovernor's message. ihe Hon E. P. Lee moved the second reading o f the Crimes Amendment Bill which, he explained, proposed to gh > tine right of appeal against sentences passed on criminals by the Supreme Oourt When this rignt of appeal is availed of, the Court hearing tne appeal- has a right to inqresae the sentence as well as to reduce it The second part of the Bill extended the powers of the Prisons Board Mr McCallum objected to a clause empowering Judges of Appeal to in/ crease sentences, which he character--1 ™ "uns P°rtsmanlike." Mr Fraser gave general support to the measure, but stressed the importance of a clause providing that prisoners may be employed usefully and paid- some wages for the benefit of their dependents, who suffered more than tn« criminal himself. The Bill was read a second time on the voices. I
