Mr Samuel Gompers (president of the American Federation of Labor) asked the American Federation of labor meeting to urge Cor.gress to ratify the League of Nations. He said the League question would probably l>e submerged during the _Presidential ■campaign owing to pressing internal questions. Mr Gompers added that -one big union could not endure, because it ran counter to the laws of human nature.

The New York World publishes a telegram from Washington, stating that Mr Marcellus Parsons and other passengers on tbe Vertura telegaphed -to the State Department assert ng that Archbishop Mannix failed to stand while "The Star Spangled Banner was played or. board the Ventura in Honolulu Harbor. It is understood that the matter is being investigated. Archbishop Mannix's version of the incident has not yet been "received.
