Mr Samuel Gompers (president of the American Federation of Labor) asked the American Federation of labor meeting to urge Cor.gress to ratify the League of Nations. He said the League question would probably l>e submerged during the _Presidential ■campaign owing to pressing internal questions. Mr Gompers added that -one big union could not endure, because it ran counter to the laws of human nature.
NEW YORK, June 14. At the America^ Federation of Labor Convent:on in Montreal, Mr J. W. Ogden, fraternal delegate from the British Trade Union Congress, urged the iriternationaiisation of the world's workers in order to further their aims -and prevent war in future. WASHINGTON. June 15. A Bill has been introduced in the 'Senate providing for the formation! of the United States Oil Corporation, to develop oil resources in foreign countries. * The corporation would give /?i-ehe United States a preferential right . "^tft take all supplies at the market prices and American citizens would. •own the majorHv of the stock. The corporation's president would appoint the corporation's officers. Mr Payne ♦(Secretary for the Interior) has sent a letter to: the Senate objecting to these, provisions, but indicafc'ng that the administration otherwise regards the measure favorably. NEW YORK, June 15. The New York World publishes a telegram from Washington, stating that Mr Marcellus Parsons and other passengers on tbe Vertura telegaphed -to the State Department assert ng that Archbishop Mannix failed to stand while "The Star Spangled Banner was played or. board the Ventura in Honolulu Harbor. It is understood that the matter is being investigated. Archbishop Mannix's version of the incident has not yet been "received.
