FAREWELL TO MISS HENDERSON

A farewell social was tendered Miss D. Henderson in the Hall last evening. Miss Henderson has been a very popular teacher at the school, arSd also a willing worker in all social movements, and a large crowd attended to pay a fitting tribute, to the young lady on her departure; about 50 couples being present for the dantee. A most enjoyable time was spent. Messrs J. Leslie, R. Hughes, and J. F. Stevenson in turn, spoke of the sterling qualities which Miss Henderson had displayed; her tact and kindness winning the approval of both pupils and parents, while her wholehearted eivergy in connection: with any function would be much missed. In presenting Miss Henderson with a cheque, Mr Stevenson expressed the good wishes of all for her future happiness. The comoany stood and sang "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow," wh:ch was followed by three cheers. Mr Fred Atkins suitably replied for Miss Henderson.

The nnssic for the dance was supplied by Miss Bennie (Kaponga), witn extras by Misses Evans. Sharp and Harri&oin 1. Messrs C. Paterson and H. Eb'ason made very efficient M.C's A short while ago Miss Henderson was. tendered a kitchen tea at Mr Leslie's residence, about "60 settlers being present. The guest of the evening' was the recipient of many useful articles for her rtew -kitchen, in her future Rome at Whakartane. Dancing was indulged in until well into the morning'A complete surprise was sprung on Mr and Mrs Leslie at the social last evening. After the presentation to Miss Henderson, Mr Stevensoni iiskcd Mt Leslie to accept a token of the esteem in which Kapuni held botih him and his wife, who had worked very hard for anything that meant the betterment of conditions in the district. The speaker then presented Mr Leslie with an oak tray, suitably inscribed" "For They are Jolly Good Fellows^" was sung, followed by cheers for Mr arid Mrs Leslie. Mr Leslie thanked the people for their pleasant surprise, and stated that he and" his wife would continue to do their bit where necessary..
