For the farewefl gathering to Mr. J. iiaiiie there was a,fine night and a large attendance. The first part of. the evening was spent in dancing, Miss- - Landers was.at the piano. ■*i,*J r *t.Le Flemin S sP°ke first. He said ' tnat he was sorry that Mr Baili© was going away, but glad to-sec him^tak- * mg well-earned rest. He spoke of his good work as secretary for the Hali for tbe past four years and of his good work " about the school and grounds. __ Mr Eaves, member of th e Taranaki Education Board, then spoke. * Mr ■Bailie, he said,, had been' here for fiveyears, and his work and interest in' the school was much appreciated by the Board, He hoped that he would come back rested and ready to take up hia ' work here again after his visit to his homeland and people. • Mr Wills spoke in much the same strain. Mr Le Fleming then asked Mr Bailie to accept a travelling rug and bag. The presentation was followed by ali singing. "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," after which the ladies handed round, a dainty supper, and dancing went on till early hours. Mr J. Daley and Mr A. Aitkan. were M.'sC. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Extras were played by ; several willing helpers. . . - Mr Bailie read his* reply to the people, stating it was a very great pleasure indeed to be there at that meeting ahd to meet so many. He sincerely thanked them' for their many kind expressionsand assured them that he valued them v-ory much. The work that was done ia and about the school had afforded him; ' sincere pleasure, and he was ably assist- « ed by the staff and the pupils who took a keen interest in all school work, and that had made the/work very pleasant, j -He felt very much leaving the pupils, as he really believed he had some staunch young friends. They were a. class*-of children he respected" and was delighted to work with. The: rery highly valued present which they :had given him would always remind" him of the pleasa-ujt time he had in the district, and he would esteem it so much. He thanked them heartily for the fine 'gift, and for the kiadaess and <_om*tesy they had invariably shown him during his. * sojourn here.
