Totals*. £6573 (£5357)5. Notes —The» ever-increasing cost of" labor and of "materials compels *n» ever-, increasing annual estimate if the town : is to continue to attract outsiders. It. is good' business to provide attractive, streets and-paths. Item 9 is for ourusual annual tar-painfcing of streets. This work increases every yea* at pre-. sent. Items 12 and 13 are practically new work; but when the streets havebeen brought up to date these items; will drop- out, and it will then be only necessary to tar-paint streets as r«-v quired1. It is quite necessary to oon-, tinue the tarring of streets hitherto untarred, or otherwise previous ©x-. penditures on metalling will be made doubtful in value. Item 14 is an unusual item. A period of years might elapse without money requiring to be sp^nt on suett work. Item 15: Some of the paths show signs that tarring must not b& much longer delayed if the. paths are "iio be efficiently maintained. The foregoing are- based upon detailedl costs kent- during the lftst five ywoe.
