MANGAHAO POWER SUPPLY

WORKERS' CONDITIONS UNSATIS-

FACTORY

CBY TELEGRAPH —PRF.BH ASSOCIATION.} WELLINGTON, April 27. The executive of a conference of local bodies on the Mangahao electrical works expresses dissatisfaction with the way the work is being handled, and urges the Government to improve matters. They consider that wages are too low and that the amount should be 16s per day. The accommodation of the men is miserable, there being nothing but tents and no fireplaces or drying apparatus, though the weather is frequently wet and misty. It is useless to expect to keep up sufficient labor unless the condition of life for the men is satisfactory, and the executive emphatically states that they are not, and they appeal to the new Minister of Public Works to take the matter in hand.
