SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RESOLUTION. ""■■ At the meeting o'" the Council of the H:>.wi--,-,\ Chanibe" of Commerce last evemw,, tJu prudent (Mr M. J. Lyn stay) reported upon the meeting held tli.nnj.' the week to deal with the luilfhoJ./Juy question. Mr C. R. K. Ciimming asked whether it would not be possible to get an Order-in-Council through securing the taking of a poll in Taranaki on the question. The president thought this could be done. It appeared, he said, as if each town was waiting to see what the other was going to do. Mr 11. G. Cuming suggested it would be advisable to have a conference of delegates from the town in Taranaki to consider the matter and see whether they could not come to some agreement on the question. The secretary (Mr Sage) pointed out that even if an agreement were reached there would still be difficulties to be overcome before the decision could be put. into effect. After some discussion Mr C R. Cumming moved that a remit be forwarded to the annual conference of the Chambers, urging that the Government be requested to pass a law making Saturrhv the compulsory statutory half-holi-day. Mr R. G. Cuming seconded the motion, and it was carried.
