IChere is much disapproving criticism in ■hoth. Nationalist and Labor circles everywhere over the Senate system of preferential -voting, which resulted practically in' giving a Nationalist inonqpoly of the Upper House that is described ac neither just nor wholesome. Labor has decidedly more reason to complain, as on the "bulk of votes recorded the party would under the old system have won several seats which the preferential system denied i&Bm, . ~ ' \-*&
Other.curious anomalies are disclosed. Four New South Wales' candidates forfeited their deposits, including Mr Garling (Nationalist), who polled heavily, but .failed to secure the -necessary primaries. There were 7.0,000 informal Senate - -votes in New South Wales
