AUSTRALIAN NAVAL DEFENCE.
MEI^BOTJRNE, Sept. 2. It is stated that Lord Jellicoe's report recommends the maintenance of eight battle cruisers, besides additional increases in cruisers, destroyers, and! submarines. The scheme develops^ yearly until 1923, when the annual expenditure will be five millions. It is understood that Lord Jellicoe informed the Government that the Admiralty^ is. prepared to provide the' Commonwealth [ with any vessel of the various classes! required. i SYDNEY, Sept. 2. Sir Joseph Cook announced that Bri- ) tain has presented Australia with two ; sloops, formerly used as supply ships, and valued at £100,000 each.
