THE MABTON MEETING
(By;'' Maecenas'?)
' 'The Martpn Jockey, dub's meeting, which, opens'; to-morrow; (Wednesday) is .virtually the opening of spring racing^ and under present, conditions the club are fortunate in getting such, excellent, acceptances !Earanaka is -well r^presentedV and their representatives should run . prominently before V returning home. ..... -.; ". •..•;■;:, ..'.■■.-. ■ ~.[;■.■■.■ ,'■< ■ No fewer than seventeen horses figure in the1 Hack '-Hurdles, and with the condition they carry, Sweet Tipperary and Yankee Jack may carry the .confidence of their respective.* owners. '■ ,A large riumb er (19) have been accepted for in the Eellvue Hacb (5 furlongs) . As the draw for positions, at the post plays a leading part in the decisions of such races, an owner must be favored thereby to be at all confident. However Tempo and Nursing1 Sister have pace, and may have their share of liick. After seeing Stetson in action last week, one would be brave to pick one to beat the grey. Possibly Onipoto, will be his most dangerous opponent. A baker's dozen were accepted for in the Marton Handicap, and when the totalisator is adjusted, it may lie found that All Over and Arrowfield are the edect of the backers (also their owners;. Gang 'Awa (11.13> has plenty of weight in the Victory- Steeplechase; and at the figures Want (10.13) and Kurapai (10.0) should provide a good contest.
As many of the acceptors for the Railway are making a reappearance after a spell, one is somewhat in the dark. The writer knows that Oratress is Avell forward, and fancied by her owner Ermine may give her most trouble,. " ' ' A poor lot figure in the L-idies' Bracelet, and Khartoum should improve on his showing at Waverley, and with Silenus, is capable of doing a S 'well as his opponents. The day's racing will conclude with the Tutaenui Welter, for which race 22 horses were accepted for. On Waverley running, Rose Queen should receive good' support, as she can be relied on to show improved form. Sir Fanciful on Awapuni form, is well, and also re worthy of respect
