The third death at Palmerston North from lethargic encephalitis occurred yesterday, the victim being a girl named Clapham, aged. 13. DEFRAUDING THE CUSTOMS. NAPIER, Aug. 23. A fireman named David Herd, from the Camana, was noticed in the street Uy the Collector of Customs yesterday carrying a bulky parcel under his arm. He was stopped and found in possession of uncustomed pickles to the value of | £1, which he was endeavoring to sell. He appeared in the. Police Court to-day and was fined £25, the minimum penalty, in default two months' imprisonment.
