WHEN WILL SERVICES RESUME?
A report is current that the railways are to resume normal running early in next month (states the Dominion). If all goes well it may be possible for the railways to resume at least partially the ordinary time-tables during September, but-all is not yet going well. The stocks of coal are not being made public for reasons which are in the interests of the community, but they are not by any means large enough to warrant an early resumption of express trains and a full goods schedule. There is no chance that the home output of coal will suffice, and therefore coal must be obtained from Newcastle. Every effort is being made at present to get more coal from Newcastle, but until the Australian strike is over it will not be possible to increase this quantity very much.
