PREVENTING FLOODS.
NAPIER, June 10. At to-day's meeting of th e Hawke'6. Bay Rivers Board the report of the engineers appointed to suggest methods of flood prevention for Hawke's Bay (Messrs J. E. Fulton, M.1.C.E., F. W. Furkert, A.M.1.C.E., and F. C. Hay, A.M.1.C.E.) was received. They suggested that the Tutaekuri river be diverted from Meanee to the sea by way of Waitangi. With regard _► Ngaruroro, the engineers provide a comprehensive scheme for improving the existing channel. It is estimatethat the net cost to the board of the land required for the works recommended will be £36,000 and the work will necessitate an expenditure of £132,000.
