IMPERIAL POLITICS
SPEECH BY*MR ASQUITH
BT CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT
(Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received May 29, 10.10 a.m.)
LONDON, May 17 (delayed). Mr Asquith, in a speech at Newcastle, ©tophasised the inestimable advantags of a compact and determined opposition in Parliament. It was the essence of parliamentary life. The artificial conditions of the December local election resulted in a top-heavy unworkmanlike machine. Coalition was often necessary in war, but wholly unsuited to the constructive tasks'of peace. We must, he said, have a speedy return to healthy, political parliamentary conditions.
