FARMERS' CONFERENCE.
WELLINGTON RESOLUTIONS
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 29. The Farmers' Union Conference resolved that the attention of the Minister of Finanoe be called to the present unsatisfactory matters in connection with State and private money-lending institutions j that where th© security is good the State should provide money at reasonable rates for farmers' needs, and should restore the table system of mortgage and provide in every mortgage a covenant for the payment of sums before due date without forfeiture of interest.
The Government is to be urged to take more effective mea&uies to prevent the aggregation of lands.
It was resolved, in view of excellent results from the adoption of preferential voting in Australia, that the same system shall, without further delay, be embodied in the electoral law of New Zealand. The Farmers' Union Conference passed a resolution by 26 to 23, cordially approving of the Labor Party's suggestion of a round-table conference to consider labor conditions, and expressing readiness to send delegates to such a conference if invited. The conference also resolved to set UP a committee to draft suggestions for legislation that would b® acceptable to both farmers and labor; that immediate steps be taken to educate public opinion: on sound, economic principles. Mr Marshall was re-elected president. The next conference will be held at Feilding. At the Auckland Farmers' Union Conference a motion was earned unanimously expressing the desirability of the Government adopting a proper immigration policy.
