LAST YEAR'S ACT BEING USED

The Minister of Agriculture "hopes soon to be in a position to announce that steps are being taken in New Zealand under the anti-trust legislation ot last session. Under-that Act the Minister i<s given absolute power to pievent any firm whatsoever from operating in th e country, and his decision is not subject to challenge on any grouai at all. No firm may carry on a meat export business under a penalty of £2000, and a contributing penalty of £400 per day unless licensed by the Minister. Up to the present v only one application for a lioense has been refused, bufc most careful) enquiries are being made in various quarters.
