AUSTRALIAN SEAMEN'S - STRIKE
SERIOUS EFFECT UPON

SYDNEY, May 27."* As the result of the seamen's strike, 12 northern and a number of southern collieries have been compelled to close. Factory employees' unions have received warning that unless the strike is settled a large n-jonber of factories will suspend operations.
The seamen's secret ballot has commenced, but a number of men are not voting.
MELBOURNE, May 27. The conference adjourned to enable the seamen's representatives from Queensland to attend. They were delayed as the result of the quarantine restriction's.
The loyalists resumed work o n the wharves under the protection of a strong force of mounted and foot police. There has been no demonstration by the strikers so far.
Five thousand persons have been rendered idle as the result of the strike.
A writ has been issued on behalf of one New South Wales, two Queensland and two South Australian members of the Seamen's Federation against five members of the executive council, seeking a declaration that all acts of business transacted by defendants as executive officers since January 29 are illegal and void, and asking for. an -injunction restraining them from acting as executive officers or dealing in any ;vay with the funds of the federation.
