Winks He J was sure that Mr Wills would be an acquisition to the Board. Mr Wills briefly replied. CORRESPONDENCE. The Department of Public Health writing with reference to financial assistance to epidemic widows, stated that it was usual for the pension to be paid by the Board in whose district the applicant resided. One or two cases had been reported to the Department of a Widow having removed from one district to another, and the Department had concurred with the suggestion that the .Board'of the district to which the widow has removed should take over the pension. The Inspector-General (Dr. Valintine)' wrote that owing to the difficulty in "securing medical officers for military duty the Defence Department was unable at present to release Dr. Thomson from duty. The Defence Department point out that in the ne&r future the position might become easier, and Dr lhomson's releas e arranged. . A communication was received from the Education Department asking what action had been taken by the, Board in the matter of having epidemic orphan children formally committed to the Wellington Receiving Home. The chairman explained that ijhe sixorphan children were being cared for by relatives, and further correspondence from the Education Department showed that the Department had no objection to these children remainins in their present positions. But the Department desired to have th e children formally committed to some institution ihis was necessary so that the Department could have sfcme control over the children, they being orphans. it was decided to take the necessary steps to have tne children formally committed. ™M^i Bri d?f men^oned that there was no doubt the children would be well cared for by their relatives. A letter was received from C E Pamrigton late secretary, thanking the. Board for cheqixe for six months' salary, and pointing out that he had not 'been paid £25 out of pocket expense*, which he contended was due to ium. No action was taken.
